Previous expertise in neutrophils isolation, degranulation assays will be useful.

Position Description

A Postdoctoral position is available at the School of Dentistry for a highly motivated individual interested in determining how host genetic factors influence immune cell functions, host-pathogen interactions and inflammatory responses at the oral mucosal barrier. This individual will work to determine how lack of oxidant function influences transcriptional pathways and degranulation responses in neutrophils derived from humans and conditional knockout animals.

Duties to include:

  • Postdoctoral Assistant will be familiar with basic and advanced immunology concepts and methodologies; keeps up with the literature and is apt to incorporate new concepts from the literature when interpreting results. Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data for discussion with the Principal Investigator.
  • Designs and performs complex immunobiology experiments and incorporates novel techniques and discoveries in cellular and molecular immunology required for advancement of projects.
  • Proficient in handling and working with mice and human tissues; Interprets experimental results and demonstrates troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Experience in using functional genomics (CRISPRm shRNA and cDNA library, cloning), mouse genetics and breeding of conditional knockout mice is desirable. 
  • Assists in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Meets with Principal Investigator on a regular basis to discuss research progress and plans. May be asked to write small grant proposals or NRSA/T32 applications.
  • Spends about 75% of time on bench research experimentation and 25% of time writing articles/analyzing data/online research and mentoring of graduate students when needed. May apply for career development funding, but not responsible for generating grant funding.

The position will have a mentor.
