SLB Award Application Instructions

The 2022 application period has ended. Check back for opportunities in 2023.

To apply for an award, you must first register for the Annual meeting, then follow the instructions below. Note ALL SLB awards require current membership. Prior to applying, please be sure your membership is current. Instructions to apply for limited need based travel grants are below.
  1. Register for the meeting.
  2. Look for the special link to the abstract and award submission system provided in your registration confirmation email.
  3. Submit an abstract online.
  4. Select the award you wish to apply for while submitting your abstract and follow all instructions.
  5. For all awards, you will be required to submit 4 or more documents plus a picture of yourself, in addition to your abstract. Required documents are listed below.

All Awards require the following uploads during abstract submission:
(please label all files with your last name and the document type. For example, Brown_CV or Chen_Bio)

  • CV (pdf)
  • Cover Letter from the candidate (pdf)
  • Letter of Recommendation from mentor, sponsor, etc. (pdf)
  • Brief bio (75-100 word doc file)
  • Candidate picture (jpeg 200x200 px or greater)
A photo and short bio is requested from all applicants. These materials will be used upon award selection for announcements. An example of award bios can be seen HERE.

Travel Grant Application Requirements

If applying for a need based travel grant, applicants are asked to submit 1) a statement of need including how attending the meeting will further your career, and 2) a proposed budget for expenses including specific support from the Society and expenses that will be covered by other sources. This will be accomplished during a task assigned at abstract submission.
