Postdoctoral Scientist – Chapman University

Dr. Jennifer Totonchy is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join her research group at Chapman University. The Totonchy laboratory is located in the School of Pharmacy (CUSP) at Chapman University’s Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, California. CUSP is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary scientific environment, and our faculty’s research interests span the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences including drug discovery and development, pharmacology, structural biology, virology, immunology, cancer biology, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

The Totonchy lab focuses on early events in the transmission of Kaposi Sarcoma Herpesvirus in human B lymphocytes. We employ ex vivo lymphocyte culture models, molecular virology tools, transciptomics and multi-parameter flow cytometry to monitor the dynamics of early KSHV infection, understand how the immune microenvironment influences the establishment of infection and determine how KSHV perturbs B cell physiology.

Dr. Totonchy is a prior K99/R00 recipient and is passionate about mentorship and career development for her trainees. The current position is supported by three NCI-funded R01 grants through 2026. The candidate will be expected to conduct original research and analyze data related to our currently-funded projects, supervise undergraduate and graduate students in their related research, and communicate research findings through scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences. The ideal candidate will have Ph.D. degree in immunology, virology or a related area with interest in the areas of B cell immunology, herpesvirology, and host-virus interactions. Prior experience in immunology and familiarity with multi-parameter flow cytometry analysis is required for this position. Previous virology or molecular biology experience is advantageous but not required.

Qualified applicants should electronically submit the following materials to Dr. Totonchy at [email protected]

  1. Coverletter
  2. CV
  3. summary of research accomplishments and interests (2 pages maximum)
  4. names, titles and contact information for three professional references.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate.
