Employing Large-Scale Human Genetics for Therapeutic Target Discovery

Featuring Antony Symons

May 5th 2022 at 4 pm EDT (1 PM PST)

Presented by our partners at IRA (Inflammation Research Association)

Antony Symons is currently the Director of Discovery Immunology at 23andMe Therapeutics where he oversees new target identification and preclinical development in immune-related mechanisms of autoimmune, inflammatory, cancer and neuro degenerative diseases. Before joining 23andMe, Antony led small and large molecule drug discovery programs at Amgen for 13 years. He has had a strong interest in the biology of cytokines and cell surface proteins, and their role in disease, throughout his career. Antony obtained his DPhil in Molecular Immunology in the lab of Neil Barclay, at the University of Oxford, and completed postdoctoral work with Lars Karlsson at Janssen, San Diego, and Steve Ley at the National Institute for Medical Research, London, UK.

In this seminar, Dr. Symons will share his perspectives on current challenges and opportunities at the intersection of human genetics and inflammation drug discovery.
