This series will explore Lab Finances, Managing People, and Managing Collaborations in an attempt to help those who are starting a lab, or those who are looking for ways to boost their current experience, to have the best chance of success in this challenging area. Register for the 3 part seriesLab Finances - November 13th, 2026 1-2pm ET In this session, panelists would discuss approaches to creating budgets for grant proposals and strategies for managing startup funds, grants, and other discretionary funding. Panelists: Amali Samarasinghe, Carlos Rosales, and Peter Keyel Managing People- December 7th, 2026 2-3pm ET In this session, the panelists would discuss strategies and best practices for managing people in the lab. Topics would include hiring, interviewing, annual evaluations, setting expectations, providing constructive feedback, conflict resolution, and time management. Panelists: Michael Mansour, Billur Akkaya, Janos Filep Managing Collaborations - January 21st, 2027 1-2pm ET In this session, the panelists will provide guidance to new career investigators on reaching out to potential collaborators. Topics would focus on strategies to maximize collaborations while safeguarding one’s own interests and future plans. Panelists can also discuss strategies for conflict resolution with other investigators, setting expectations, and establishing a division of labor in collaborations. Most importantly, panelists will offer advice on when to say no, how to decide when a collaboration is no longer fruitful, and how to end it amicably.
