Post Doctoral Scientist - Research Microbial Pathogenesis- Dr. Bagaitkar's lab


Bagaitkar Lab located in the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis at Nationwide Children’s Hospital invites applications for postdoctoral fellows in immunology and microbiology. The successful applicant will join a research project looking at inherited defects in NADPH oxidase modulate host inflammatory responses at the oral mucosal barrier. The NIH-funded research project focuses on understanding the role of oxidants in modulating neutrophil and macrophage effector responses in a manner that promotes immune homeostasis at the oral and other mucosal barriers. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment with the possibility of yearly renewal dependent upon performance and continued funding of 3 to a maximum of 5 years.

  • Induction of inflammatory injury (experimental periodontitis, aspiration pneumonia, DSS drive colitis and skin irritation) in conditional genetic mouse models.
  • Handling and breeding of mice, isolation of primary blood cells (neutrophils, macrophages, and dendritic cells)
  • Cellular and molecular assays evaluating neutrophil effector functions (Phagocytosis, ROS assays, NETosis, chemotaxis).
  • Isolation and analysis of RNA from cells and tissues (real-time PCR, RNA-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq) 
  • Confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and flow sorting.





  • PhD in Immunology, Microbiology or a related discipline.
