Vito Pistoia Passing

Dear friends and colleagues,

With a great sadness, we have to announce that Vito Pistoia passed away on September 11, 2018. As you know, Vito has been a very active member of our society, other than a respected component of the editorial board of the Journal of Leukocyte Biology. Vito has always been a beloved friend within the Italian community of immunologists, representing for all of us a true example of humanity and moral suasion. He dedicated his life as immunologist and oncologist to study B cells and B lymphoproliferative disorders, as well as pediatric diseases, working in the two main Italian pediatric hospitals, first in Genova (Istituto Giannina Gaslini) and then in Rome (Ospedale Bambin Gesù). His love for children and his great motivation to improve the quality of their life, as well as extend its length, were impressive to us. Vito’s contributions in the field of tumor immunotherapy, particularly with regard to Neuroblastoma, advanced our knowledge and made seminal steps forward for implementing novel therapeutic approaches. Vito represents a pillar among the communities of oncologists and immunologists, as confirmed by his outstanding scientific productions published in journals with very high impact. He also accomplished many scientific commitments in national and international scientific societies/journals: lately, in fact, Vito was Editor-in Chief of Immunology Letters. It was always a great pleasure to talk and interact with Vito in person. He was always patient, educated, humble and we certainly enjoyed the generosity of his soul and his unique skills to make everything light and easy with remarkable irony and kindness. We will miss the friend and the scientist. Our thoughts also go to his wife and family.

Ciao Vito, rest in peace.
