G. Jeanette Thorbecke Award

This award is intended for a deserving young female investigator working in the area of cellular and molecular mechanisms of host defense and inflammation. The awardee will be selected from among junior faculty (less than 6 years in a tenure-track or equivalent position) nominated by a colleague, by a fellow faculty member, or by the chair of the department. The award will provide a $1,000 cash prize and will include registration fees and travel expenses for attendance of the recipient at the 2006 joint SLB/IEIIS meeting.
How to apply:
Selection of the award recipient will be made by the Awards Committee of SLB. The nomination package should include the candidate’s CV and bibliography, plus a cover letter describing the rationale for nomination and highlighting the candidate’s significant research accomplishments to date.

Presidential Student Awards in Research

Eligibility: Predoctoral students and Postdoctoral trainees. All candidates must be members of SLB at the time of award (membership application can be made at time of abstract submission). Must check the appropriate box on the abstract form.
Competition: Four finalists to be selected from submitted abstracts by SLB Awards Committee. The finalists will be judged on platform presentations at Awards Competition; selection criteria include scientific merit, presentation style, and facility in answering questions. All other submitted, non-finalist abstracts will be scheduled in the regular program.
Award: Winners of the competition will receive a plaque, $600 (First Place) or $300 (Second Place), and a Travel Award of up to $750, if requested (check the appropriate box).

Student/Postdoctoral Awards

The SLB Council has earmarked funds for travel assistance for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to attend the 2006 Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
Eligibility: Members of SLB who are Predoctoral students or Postdoctoral trainees, and are first and presenting authors of their papers at the meeting. Must check the appropriate box on the abstract form.
Competition: Awardees to be selected from submitted abstracts by the SLB Awards Committee. Selection criteria include scientific merit and financial need.
Awards: The total number and the level of awards (maximum of $600) are dependent on the distance traveled and the total number of applications.
How to apply: Competitors must include letter from an advisor attesting to the student’s role in the project, financial needs and the level of support the advisor and/or school will provide for the student’s participation at the meeting.
